Jr. Lifeguard Training Recruits Wanted









The Warrenton Aquatic Center’s Junior Lifeguard course is designed to guide youth by building a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills for future lifeguards. Junior Lifeguarding is an effective transition from upper level learn to swim courses to the lifeguard program, challenging participants to stay involved with aquatics. Under the guidance of Aquatics Director, Lisa Kramer, the Junior Lifeguard Training is designed to give you the necessary knowledge to know when and how to help yourself and others regarding water safety and emergencies. Training starts with the focus on the life guard fundamentals of water safety, then progresses to rescues, CPR, AED, and first aid.

Causes and Prevention of Drowning
Head, Neck, and Spinal Injuries in the Water
Recognizing Emergencies
Reaching and Throwing Assists
Entries and Approaches
Sizing the Scene
Primary Assessment
Simple Assists
Emergency Action Plans
Submerged Victims in Shallow Water
Adult CPR/AED 1 Rescuer
Obstructed Airway
First Aid

Requirements:
Participants must be 11 - 16 years old, able to swim at least 100 yards, able to dive to a depth of 10 feet, able to swim 10 feet underwater, and able to tread water for one minute.

Upon completing the Lifeguarding Fundamentals Training and turning 15 years old, participants will be prepared for their first job as a lifeguard at the Warrenton Aquatic Center.
